Custom home building company Fireside Home Construction of Michigan recently completed a new model home in Dexter, Mich., that has achieved a LEED for Homes Platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. It is the first LEED Platinum-rated home in the state.
The 2,800-square-foot Shingle-style home incorporates a range of innovative solutions that contribute to its energy-efficient performance, including a 2-kilowatt solar power system to offset grid-supplied electricity; structural insulated panel construction with 6-inch-thick walls and 10-inch-thick roof; an insulated concrete form basement as well as a geothermal heating, cooling, and hot water system; Energy Star-rated appliances and lighting; and energy-efficient windows and doors.
Fireside’s new model home also achieves Green Built Michigan’s Gold certification. To see the home, visit www.firesidehomeco.com/NewsAndAwards/Story.aspx?ContentItemID=660.
