Adding to its series of energy and green construction educational programs, the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) has launched “Introduction to Solar Photovoltaics,” the first component of a complete Solar Photovoltaics Systems Installer curriculum. The new curriculum will begin in 2011, responding to rising demand from contractors for training in renewable energy technologies.
The first photovoltaics-focused educational module developed by NCCER, “Introduction to Solar Photovoltaics,” covers basic knowledge and application of solar energy generation, including system components, sizing principles, design considerations, environmental effects, and site analysis. The module is based on the 10 objectives of the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners’ (NABCEP) Performance Verification Entry Level Program, and several industry experts contributed to its development, including professionals from Progress Energy, Solar Source Institute, and the Florida Solar Energy Center.
Aside from earning industry credentials through NCCER’s national registry, students completing the coursework acquire the prerequisite knowledge for the NABCEP Entry Level Program. The NCCER photovoltaics curriculum, when launched, will support NABCEP’s Photovoltaic Installation certification.
“Introduction to Solar Photovoltaics” will be available through NCCER Accredited Training Sponsors throughout the United States. Visit www.nccer.org to find a local training sponsor or assessment center.
