The National Insurance Crime Bureau and the Associated General Contractors of America estimate that theft and vandalism at construction sites total $1 billion every year. According to the NAHB, these losses–many of which go unreported for fear of increased liability insurance rates–can increase the cost of a new home by 1 percent to 2 percent.
