The NAHB Federation is recognizing courageous federal legislators who have demonstrated strong support for housing with the inaugural Defender of Housing awards.

Based on nominations from state and local HBAs, NAHB honored 150 federal legislators for taking action through their votes to support home building and NAHB’s positions on key issues facing the industry. Some HBAs are using the award presentations to shine a spotlight on the impact of their members in their communities and the key relationship between the health of the industry and the American economy.

For example, the Heart of Texas Builders Association and the Greater Brazos Valley Builders Association presented the award to Rep. Bill Flores (R) at the Greater Waco Advanced Manufacturing Academy to emphasize the rewarding career opportunities available in the industry.

The Metropolitan Builders & Contractors Association of New Jersey presented its award to Rep. Leonard Lance (R) at a condominium community to highlight the work of its members with infill housing in walkable communities close to mass transit. Lance and association members discussed local housing issues during the event.

HBAs will continue to present awards to their legislators over the next few months. Learn more about the award and see a complete list of winners.
