Colorado Wildfire: Two dead, hundreds of homes destroyed

1 MIN READ

In what has quickly become the most destructive wildfire in Colorado history, the Black Forest fire is 5% contained with more than 15,000 acres in the burn area, reports NPR.

CNN‘s update page notes that the weather forecast Friday isn’t going to make things any easier for firefighters trying to fight the blaze.

Information sources and media outlets are using the Twitter hashtag #BlackForestFire to track updates.

How can I help? You can help by visiting the American Red Cross who is already actively helping the thousands affected by the fire. If you are in a wildfire-prone zone, it might also be a good idea to download the Wildfire App provided by the Red Cross.

Building in wildfire prone areas? There are many sources of helpful information for builders covering just this topic. Whether it is following certain landscaping techniques or installing heatproof windows and protected vents, there are many ways to be ready in the face of wildfires.

Homeowners can take this assessment provided by Berkeley’s Center for Fire Research and Outreach. The site has a fire information toolkit, homeowner and community wildfire assessments, a landscaping guide, and more.
