The Portland Cement Association (PCA), a nonprofit serving the country’s cement manufacturers, and Simpson Strong-Tie, a products and materials manufacturer, have pledged their support to the International Code Council and the Alliance for National & Community Resilience’s (ANCR) efforts to create the first whole-community resilience benchmarks in the U.S.

When complete, the ANCR’s building, water, and energy-efficiency benchmarks and self-assessment systems will allow communities to quickly and easily gauge their infrastructure resilience efforts in a transparent and practical fashion. The Portland Cement Association donated $25,000 to the ANCR’s efforts, and Simpson Strong-Tie pledged $10,000 to support the development of the buildings benchmark.

“We are excited to welcome PCA and Simpson Strong-Tie as our partners in helping communities prepare for the many challenges they face, from vast economic shifts to unprecedented environmental changes,” says ANCR’s chairman, Maj. General Warren C. Edwards USA (Ret.). “They are joining a prestigious group of private and public entities, including the Dow Chemical Company and Target Corporation, who are dedicating money, time and other resources to this important effort.”

The deadline for lead resilience development process sponsorships and for volunteer committee opportunities has been extended to Friday, February 16th at 5:00 PM Eastern time. Organizations or individuals interested in sponsoring the buildings, water, and/or energy resilience benchmarks should contact ResilientAlliance@gmail.com by February 16th. Specialists interested in volunteer roles on the committees that will create the resiliency benchmarks should submit their resumes or curriculum vitae to the same address.
