During the NY Solar Industries 2010 Conference in May in Albany, N.Y., a high-performance green demonstration home built in the Hamptons was recognized with the Long Island Power Authority’s Net Zero Residential Building Award. The award was presented to the home’s builder and project manager Tim Dalene, of Telemark, as well as architect Richard Stott, president and founder of Flynn+Stott Architects, who designed the home with Craig Lee of Lee Architecture. The home also won a 6KC award from the New York Solar Energy Industries Association, also presented during the conference.

Built as a demonstration project for the Hamptons Green Alliance (HGA), the HGA House replaces a home in Southampton, N.Y., that was severely damaged by fire. It was completed earlier this spring. The house harvests its own rainwater and includes many high-performance features such as a super-insulated and tightly sealed envelope, geothermal heating and cooling, thin-film photovoltaic panels, a solar thermal hot water system, and LED lighting. Some of the original structure’s materials were reclaimed for use, helping to contribute to the house’s LEED points. The builders and architects are aiming for LEED Platinum certification, which is yet to be determined.

CUSTOM HOME originally covered the project in September 2009.
