New Residential Sales Drop 3.5% Month to Month in September

Sales of new single-family homes were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 959,000, for a median price of $326,800.

Sales of new single-family homes came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 959,000 in September, according to estimates released jointly today by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

This marks a 3.5% month-to-month decrease from an estimated 994,000 new single-family home sales in August, but a 32.1% increase above the estimated 726,000 new-home sales in September 2019.

The median sales price of new homes sold in September was $326,000, and the average sales price was $405,400. The seasonally adjusted estimate of new houses for sale was 284,000 at the end of September, representing a 3.6-month supply of new single-family homes at the current sales rate.
