The ultimate design incorporates bunk beds in the hall outside the primary bedroom suites and murphy beds in the lower-level millwork to accommodate all guests and minimally disrupt from other design features in the home.
The home’s design focuses on simplified circulation, as a spine organizing the arrangement of spaces harmonizes the public and private concisely. Natural light and views were designed thoughtfully in the home: the hallway bunk beds receive diffused light through channel glass, a large glass lens on the south façade offers framed views of the nearby lake, and the lower level opens from the entertainment space to the deck and boat house as a continuous indoor-outdoor room. Access to the water is accomplished through a boardwalk at the water’s edge linking the beach, boat house, custom-designed firepit, culminating at the boat slips.
The home features natural materials and enhanced building science practices to promote sustainability. Board-formed concrete, shou sugi ban charred siding, and cedar shingles will all age as natural materials to blend with the surrounding landscape.
