On a narrow peninsula in Sag Harbor, New York, the Morris Cove custom home stands as a unique beacon. Paul Masi and Aaron Well of Bates Masi + Architects teamed up with Men at Work Construction Corp to create an inspired, unique design: a home that, rather than being one building, is five conjoined pavilions.

The pavilions that form Morris Cove are built at the same height and are conjoined by the home’s roof. The roof itself is designed to direct rain runoff into the home’s garden courtyards, which improves the groundwater and can be stored in the soil, sand, and gravel within them.
The concrete retaining wall rings which form the home’s foundation serve multiple functions. They keep the home elevated, which both keeps the pavilions safe from flooding and reduces its effect on water displacement during intense storms. Morris Cove was designed to not just work with its environment, but to improve it.
