Taking full advantage of its Abbapoola Creek setting in Johns Island, South Carolina, the Southern Living Idea House within agrihood Kiawah River blends architecture with its Lowcountry landscape. The 4,400-square-foot home is nestled between centuries-old oaks where native plantings, resilient coastal materials, and site-sensitive design were used to make the outdoor spaces feel as natural possible.
The home, built by Dillard-Jones Builders, was landscaped by Design Works. The plantings and home design invite residents to engage with the land through outdoor spaces including shared porches and terraces that overlook the creek. Celebrating the region’s biodiversity, its landscape design complements the larger agrihood’s vision of sustainability and is surrounded by working farms and responsible land use.

The interiors connect with the landscape through marsh-inspired colors and organic textures.
