HEFTY CONCRETE COUNTERBALANCES the minimalist appearance of this custom kitchen and ties it in with the rest of the massive, 10,000-square-foot, rammed-earth home. The owners wanted a functional yet artful culinary space that could serve as a hub for social interaction. Sculptural concrete countertops and forms anchor the U-shaped kitchen, serving as visual dividers in place of walls. Texture, detail, and visual interest are further added through the use of bamboo, honed granite, steel, and crackled tile.
