Located on 5,000 acres in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina’s I-26 growth corridor, Nexton by developer Newland and owner North America Sekisui House has quickly evolved into a nationally acclaimed community, from winning top master plan at NAHB’s 2021 Nationals to Gold Nugget Award recognition last year.

After launching in 2015 with commercial nodes to drive regional employment, the diverse master plan “artfully blends the best of live, work, and play,” with four residential villages, several apartment communities, hotels, office space, schools, medical facilities, 50 miles of trails, and 2,000 acres of green space.

“They really thought about creating an environment and celebrating the neighborhood aspects of the community,” says one juror.

As a result, the community is attracting buyers ranging from first-time homeowners and millennials to second-home buyers and retirees moving to the area. Builders, including Pulte Homes, Saussy Burbank, True Homes, David Weekley Homes, Ashton Woods, Homes by Dickerson, Centex, Del Webb, and New Leaf Builders, have developed home designs that create a “true low country street sense,” while offering the latest concepts in modern living.

Nexton has over 2,000 occupied homes and apartments. The community in October 2020 unveiled its next development chapter with Midtown, featuring more than 2,500 single-family homes, townhomes, and multifamily residences, and will continue to debut future phases, amenities, and commercial development in the coming years.
