Architect Adolfo Perez assembled a sensuous palette of natural materials to finish out this free-flowing master suite. Quartered sepele and ribbon-stripe mahogany casework rubs up against walls clad in red copper and limestone; sandblasted and clear glass modulate space, light, and views; and cool limestone floors contrast visually and tactilely with plush wool carpeting. The judges found the effect both warm and luxurious.
The suite occupies an entire wing of the new, 4,500-square-foot custom house. Its master bath is designed to embrace the openness of the entire contemporary home while providing each owner with plenty of privacy. His-and-hers dressing rooms lead to separate bathrooms linked by a common shower that can be entered from either space. The shower, equipped with a steam unit and two showerheads, provides a shoulder-high window that looks out to an Atlantic Ocean view.
