DeVries Place Senior Apartments, Milpitas, Calif.
DeVries Place is rich in history. Some of it comes by way of the memories and storytelling of its residents, while some is embodied by a historic, 4,250-square-foot Prairie-style house that was rehabilitated and relocated on site for use as apartments and community rooms.
The project’s new four-story apartment building is contemporary in style, yet complementary of the historic residence. A prominent entry colonnade is marked by broad columns of similar proportions to the pilasters of the original house, and living room bays capped with deep aluminum sunshades evoke the Prairie-style roof overhangs. Residents enjoy a public library, health center, movie theater, rooftop deck, and fitness center.
