Home Depot Offering Scholarships for Trade Students

1 MIN READ

Home improvement retailer The Home Depot, based in Atlanta, has launched a scholarship program to provide more than 600 students enrolled in building and construction trade programs with $500 awards to help offset the costs of their education. The Trade Scholarship Program is open to full-time and part-time students who will be graduating from a building and construction degree or career program at a college, university, or vocational/technical school in the United States within the next 12 months.

“We know there are thousands of students at colleges and trade schools across the country who are preparing themselves for a career in this field,” said Chris Waits, The Home Depot’s vice president of sales and services. “We recognize the hard work that it takes to complete these education programs, and we want to provide scholarship assistance to defray some of the cost.” More than $300,000 in scholarships will be awarded in 2009.

Students studying for careers as home builders, general contractors, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, HVAC specialists, and other building and construction-related trades are eligible for the program. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on demonstrated academic performance, leadership, and work experience. Students must submit applications by June 20, 2009. Applications in English and Spanish are available online at www.homedepot.com/tradescholarship. Winners will be announced in September 2009.
