Home Library Tower Captures Light and Views

Bernard Wharton of Shope Reno Wharton Architecture calls this sunlit library tower in a Rhode Island house “a fun little romantic folly.” He placed it at one end of the building to capture waterfront views and balance out the home’s massing. Natural light flows in through custom windows and gently reflects off the mahogany ceiling and walls. Builder Dennis Clarke Building Contractor worked within very small tolerances to construct the round tower just as it was designed. Says Wharton: “Any time you’re building something in the round, it takes a whole different level of skill. There’s no room for error, from the foundation all the way up.”
