One of the Architects my firm has worked with is particularly adept at this type of Architecture/Art installation inside a house that serves as a visual “boundary” between open rooms. I’m specifically talking about a Dining Room separator here. David Webber of Webber Studios has a very talented firm and I love working on their projects because of precisely these types of interior finish carpentry projects. My company has a staff carpentry crew of 6 of the most talented men I’ve ever worked with.
On this project the Architect wanted us to try three different options for the exposed edge material. So, we made samples of LVL framing material, Birch Plywood, and standard AC Plywood. The winner was the void free Birch plywood, but we needed to figure out how to laminate them to get the thickness needed for the Architect’s vision. After a few samples we decided upon a course of 3 layers of 3/4? material. The same material was decided to be used for all the interior bookcases too so we had a lot of fabrication on our hands.
