The architects had two types of families in mind when they designed the Adagio 5050 plan for Canterra Homes in greater Phoenix. “One for parents with a 20-something child that won’t leave the house, or it could be for those with a widowed mother or father who lives with them,” says Thomas Rietz, the company’s president.
But, in fact, the 2,709-square-foot floor plan has so many optional permutations that it could fit the needs of almost any buyer seeking plenty of private bedroom space at the expense of a formal living room.
The plan is designed in four quadrants: a public area that includes a great room with kitchen and a formal dining room; a master suite section; a section for other bedrooms; and a garage area that also includes space for a potential fifth bedroom and bonus space/sixth bedroom.
One of the home’s most popular options is the casita, which turns bedrooms two and three into a bedroom and sitting area that can either be entered through the house or from a separate front door off the courtyard. The revision turns two walk-in bedroom closets into a bathroom plus a sink area off the living area and squeezes a traditional closet along the length of the bedroom area.
Another option on that quadrant takes out a wall in bedroom four, creating a “teen space” for the two adjacent bedrooms.
Options in the garage quadrant include making bedroom five, which is off the home’s front foyer and near the garage, into a den. And the bonus space in the back of the garage could be storage or a sixth bedroom.
An option in the master bedroom quadrant is to split the bedroom area in two, creating a sitting area off the bedroom.
The plan is a new one for Canterra, but it proved popular in its new Tartesso community even before the first model was completed.
