Sherwin-Williams has unveiled the 2021 edition of its annual Colormix Forecast, which collects 40 paint colors into four palettes based on global color, design, and pop culture trends. This year, the forecast’s overarching theme is the “Rhythm of Color”—the creation of a balance between “fast and slow,” “quiet and expressive,” and “virtual and physical,” according to the manufacturer.
“We started telling a story last year about using color to help us feel grounded as we were headed into a new decade. Now we are continuing that inward journey by exploring the past, examining the present, and looking at what this all means for our future,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams. “The rhythm of color is examining where we’ve been to help inform where we’re going and to help us create that central hub that is so vital to our everyday living and working now.”
The Sanctuary palette’s muted greens, browns, and whites are influenced by biophilic and Scandinavian design. Encounter combines richer blue and earth tones with natural red-pink shades.
Continuum contrasts white and charcoal with bright yellow and lavender, creating a “hybrid of synthetic and natural,” according to the manufacturer, and Tapestry is a mix of bold pinks and yellows designed to layer together.
