The judges commended this kitchen’s sense of luxury, its fearless use of pattern, and its sense of fun. In combining a lively tile backsplash (a mix of honed stone and marble), a black and white tile floor, and accents of gold on the cabinet hardware and plumbing and light fixtures, this project team created “a brave moment,” said the jury. Well-proportioned wall cabinets that vary in scale help hold the room together. This kitchen supports a bold and commanding choice of materials that could easily look overdone.
