Nonquitt Cottage

South Dartmouth, Mass.

1 MIN READ

Part of a small family compound, this four-bedroom cottage is a prime example of a traditional design that’s been filtered through a contemporary lens.

The home is designed to entice grown children and young grandchildren to visit, so the architects organized the project as a four-bedroom cottage and a two-bedroom studio. Both feature a standing-seam metal roof and fiber-cement cladding, while the cottage interiors are finished in white-painted millwork, concrete countertops, and oak flooring.

Adhering to green principles, the architects chose products that are made from recycled materials, reduce energy consumption, and improve indoor air quality. The LEED Silver–rated home features a highly efficient thermomass foundation, convective cooling, and a super-insulated and extremely tight building envelope.
