FourPlans: New Family-Friendly Designs from Frank Betz

These mid-size layouts provide plenty of elbow room.

Somewhere between entry-level and luxury sits the sweet spot for many families. These new plans from Frank Betz Associates get the details right, from open, hub-like kitchens to spa-like master bathrooms.

Flexible Front Room

This charming design stands out with its mix of stone and siding, along with Craftsman-style details like decorative trusses and graceful porch columns. The floor plan focuses on multi-use spaces, like the flex room that can be used as a home office, a formal dining room, or perhaps even a hobby space. The open kitchen flows into the family room, which steps out to the deck and vaulted porch for easy outdoor living. Owners will enjoy kicking back in their private bathroom, where a large shower and whirlpool tub create a spa-like vibe. The second level holds two bedrooms sharing a Jack and Jill bath, a loft, and access to the huge bonus room. See more images, information, and the floor plan.

Room for an In-Law

Busy families will appreciate the abundant storage (just check out all of those walk-in closets, especially the master suite’s huge one) and versatile spaces in this home. On the main floor, the media room serves as a spacious office (complete with access to the screened porch) or perhaps a homeschooling center. In-laws or visitors easily access their suite on this level. Tucked away in the back left corner, the master suite provides owners with a relaxing retreat that shows off a large bathroom and convenient proximity to the laundry room. A mudroom keeps everything organized near the garage entrance. See more images, information, and the floor plan.

Year-Round Outdoor Living

With its open dining room that flows into the kitchen, this plan feels modern and designed for the way families really live. A guest suite invites visitors to stay and relax. Also on this level, the master suite includes a big shower, a tub with a view, and two sinks. Decorative ceiling treatments draw your gaze up, especially in the vaulted family room. Two porches, one with a fireplace and the other screened for inclement weather, invite year-round outdoor living. A bonus room on the second level allows for later expansion. See more images, information, and the floor plan.

Bright and Versatile “Keeping Room”

Elegant and simple, this design prioritizes family-friendly details like big closets and open spaces. The kitchen features an island with the sink on it, making it easy to interact with guests while preparing food. The nearby walk-in pantry sits between the kitchen and the garage for quick grocery unloading. With its disappearing wall of glass to the porch, the keeping room becomes a bright and breezy living space for pleasant spring days. A large walk-in closet and double vanities add functional luxury to the master suite. Upstairs, kids or guests will enjoy the privacy of en suite bathrooms. Another suite sits on the main level for easy access. See more images, information, and the floor plan.
