In response to huge jumps in single-family home prices (15.3 percent between February and March of this year alone), many Sacramento, Calif.- area builders are turning back to condominiums as a way to achieve high densities and affordability. Where median home prices have hit $339,000, each new condo unit is expected to fetch about $200,000. Many builders have reportedly asked for rezoning, as the number of condos being built has increased 47 percent since 2001.
