A new exhibit, “Making Room: Housing for a Changing America,” opened in November at the National Building Museum. Through nearly a year of display, the exhibit will explore various solutions to new types of household formations, from tiny homes to accessory dwelling units to a concept called the Open House.

In this video, contributors to the Open House speak to the innovative design flexibility that come together to respond to home buyers’ needs. The project shows a hyper-efficient layout, movable walls, and multifunctional furniture, which all lend to the flexibility of future housing design.

The exhibition will be on view until Sept. 16, 2018 at National Building Museum. More information is at https://www.nbm.org/exhibition/making-room/.
