The highly studied and equally anticipated influx of millennial and boomer home buyers is shaping a new type of household in the U.S.: the multigenerational household.
This trend is taking different forms in various markets across the country. BUILDER is offering you the chance to contribute to the housing community’s understanding of this buyer by participating in a quick survey to be entered in a drawing to win $250.
This research initiative will be incorporated into the Meritage reNEWable Living Home program to focus on helping home builders grasp and leverage the multigenerational housing design opportunity. The result of the research will take a physical presence with the completion of the reNEWable Living Home in Orlando in January 2018. In addition, BUILDER will publish a white paper with information on how the demands of the multigenerational buyer can be expressed in housing design, engineering, and marketing.
Research from The Farnsworth Group directed at the multigenerational buyer showed that these buyers are motivated by financial reasons and the opportunity to be a caregiver.
Your insight will be combined with former research on the multigenerational home buyer demographic. The continuation of the research will help home builders and designers find new angles to define this group of buyers, new ways to approach them, and new solutions to offer them.
This discovery process attempts to illustrate the size of the multigenerational household, along with the composition of this buyer type—age, relationships, marital status, health status, etc. This project also will present thought leadership around design, development, collaborative efforts, and operations processes that deliver homes and communities at the right price and location to meet the wave of rising multigenerational housing demand.
