Clad in stone, wood, steel, and glass, the 8,250-square-foot house respectfully utilizes the site’s sloping topography and nestles quietly within its natural surroundings, “creating a rugged and durable contemporary interpretation of alpine architecture,” states the firm.
To encourage connections between the interior spaces, the existing landscape, and the distant views, the design team incorporated choreographed openings in the building masses, including floor-to-ceiling glass doors in the main living space.
Another example of this is expressed through a second-floor bridge, designed with both a glass floor and railing. The bridge makes three axes—northwest, southwest, and vertically. It not only connects visitors to the guest wing, but it peers into the family room below and invites natural light into the central hallway.
