Messy Kitchens

These days, the main function of the kitchen is entertainment (maybe some Étouffée as well).

NEXTadventure buyers are using their kitchens in different ways. They no longer are rushing home from work to cook a meal for the family. Now, the main function of the kitchen is entertainment.

Deryl Patterson, president of Housing Design Matters, brought a messy kitchen into the design of the NEXTadventure home, the idea being to keep the actual kitchen less messy. She explains, “The modern kitchen is full of wonderful time-saving and specialty devices. Our kitchens are also more open to the casual dining area and family room. The challenge is finding a place for these must-have gadgets without cluttering up our counter tops. In the 1960s, we had ‘appliance garages’ in our kitchens for the toaster; a small cabinet with a roll up door to conceal our single gadget.”

And now, we have tripled the number of gadgets and small appliances, which is another great reason to create a space where you can close off the clutter. The messy kitchen in the NEXTadventure home features plenty of cabinet and counter space to put things away plus to function during a party or while entertaining.

In this video, Patterson describes more of the features and benefits of a messy kitchen.
