In just more than a decade, one in every five Americans will be older than 65. They will be looking for housing solutions that meet their needs—physically and emotionally.
Minto Communities offers a new solution, wrapping entertainment and lifestyle into a huge master plan community in a partnership with Margaritaville Holdings. The project, which is highlighted as a HIVE 50 Innovator, mixes a legend and icon with a destination location for housing aimed at the booming aging population.
“Latitude Margaritaville will redefine active adult living,” says John Cohlan, CEO of Margaritaville Holdings. “With an immersive and fully branded experience, Latitude Margaritaville will be a physical place where people can live the Margaritaville lifestyle, create new friendships, enjoy new adventures, and simply have fun every day.”
In response to more research on this demographics’ preferences, the homes boast features that just years ago wouldn’t have been associated with active adult living. For instance, there is a strong focus on energy efficiency, responding to a desire by boomers to save money on utility bills. There also is a spotlight on increased safety and security, one of the main concerns that came up as part of the BUILDER Concept Home, NEXTadventure research.
There also are dozens of amenities that make the community comfortable to live in for aging adults, considering their health status and following universal design guidelines. And, there is a nod to convenience with higher quality construction and longer term warranties, which mean the homeowner doesn’t have to think about ongoing maintenance.
In this short video, Michael Belmont, president of Minto Communities USA, shares the insight and strategy and that new community offers.
The Daytona Beach location is one of the partnerships’ first; they also recently opened a second location in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
