Research focused on the NEXTadventure project, which is a true best practice for 55-plus housing, highlighted a few key features that suppliers were able to deliver – these buyers want low maintenance products, an indoor/outdoor connection and lots of storage and organization.

Here, Erick Felsch, volume program national accounts manager at Western Window Systems and Duane Hart, marketing director at Timberlake Cabinetry, give an overview of what the home has to offer those seeking their NEXTadventure.

The Western Window Systems bifolding door that disappears completely into the wall allows the home owner to experience the true indoor/outdoor connection that they are seeking. And they don’t want just any outdoor space, according to the survey they want outdoor bling for entertaining, like a grill, fire pit and seating area.

The NEXTadventure buyers also can appreciate the Western Window Systems vinyl coating that is a perfect low maintenance option. It allows buyers to have a fancy system with a practical price as well, which also happens to be important to his demographic. For example, the survey showed that price and affordability are the second most important influences when they purchase a new home.

With the kitchen being ranked by 83% of survey respondents as the most important room in the house, the cabinetry also is very important. As Hart points out in the video, Timberlake makes it easy for these buyers to get a custom experience from their builder to meet their storage and organization demands and to hit trends like stacked cabinets that reach the ceiling.

The survey goes on to outline how these 55-plus buyers want to use their kitchen. Those buying a new home were equally focused on the design, look and feel of the materials used as they were with the durability of the materials. Coming in a close second, they were concerned about the functionality of the materials. The fourth factor was price and affordability.
