Product Innovation to Provide at Home Renewal

Suppliers involved in the reNEWable Living Home bring new thinking to renewal.

A home buyer’s experience can only be created through the collaboration of hundreds of parties, brought together by the builder to create their brand experience.

In the case of the reNEWable Living Home, orchestrated by Meritage Homes and BSB Design, the experience being created for the targeted multigenerational buyer is renewal. This experience is coming to life through the careful selection of products, married with a leading design.

Renewal means feeling safe and secure; it means gaining conveniences to save time; it means spending more time with family and less time worrying about maintaining the home.

Robert Bergeth, the general manager of builder sales at Whirlpool, explains that the company studies ways to take the difficulty out of daily tasks and make them easier. Its focus is on product conveniences that save time and enhance home buyers’ lives so they can better provide for their families.

For instance, smart appliances have voice control through Amazon Alexa for the first time, which enables the user to ask for recipes. Plus, these technologies are advancing in new ways, becoming intuitive to the home buyer’s use. So these appliances actually learn and change as they improve their “knowledge” of the user.

Renewal is about being safe and secure, and about coming home and unwinding, Bergeth says. The Whirlpool family of products focuses on giving the home owner time at home to renew and refresh. These products also need to be able to accommodate multiple lifestyles, and provide it all under one roof and one family atmosphere.

Other suppliers are also creating spaces that bring renewal to the home buyer. Duane Hart, director of marketing at Timberlake Cabinetry, speaks of the new spaces outside of the kitchen that the company has created have special products for. Timberlake offers an expansive and flexible product line that goes into offices, drop zones, and other areas to bring convenience to the home buyer.

These cabinets are offered in new colors meant to emphasize the spirit of renewal, such as Slate, Harbor, Truffle, and Linen. The extensive palette means that buyers can create individualized spaces but also can connect them for a coordinated feel across the multigenerational household.

“We believe in collaborating with builder partners, and the result is innovation,” Hart says. Projects like the concept home bring suppliers together with builders to inspire innovation. In the case of the reNEWable Living Home, suppliers are challenged to think about providing the comfort of renewal for a multigenerational buyer.
