Renewal Through Interior Design

The BUILDER concept home attracts a new demographic by a marriage of theme and design.

The psychology of renewal is that it offers a moment to start over. It cleans the slate and opens opportunity for something better, improved.

For this year’s BUILDER concept project, Meritage Homes offers the reNEWable Living Home, which portrays renewal through design and performance.

Here, Rick Thomas, president of Intermark Design Group—the interior designer selected for the project—shares how elements of renewal were incorporated throughout the home that speak well to the target demographic: an international buyer.

The Intermark team searched for items that were from renewable sources to help convey the feeling of renewal. Some of those items include a teak root console, a cocktail table made from reclaimed elm wood, leather hide stools, and a recycled concrete tabletop.

Other design elements, such as the live wall adjacent to the kitchen, convey a stronger, less subtle connection to nature and the renewing benefits of the outdoors. Other such elements include woven recycled wallpaper, cork wallpaper, and a cork desktop.

The reNEWable Living Home will be on display for the first time in January in Orlando, Florida. Register now to visit the home and learn about its design and performance features.
