BizMat takes contractors' business questions and answers them online.

Imagine a place where you could get quick, affordable answers to your most pressing business questions. That’s the promise of BizMat ( www.bizmat.com), a Web site launched last fall by the Silver Spring, Md.-based company to provide advice to contractors, remodelers, and others in the construction industry. Geared toward small businesses to companies with $50 million in sales, BizMat offers tips and strategies on profitability, human resource issues, and customer satisfaction. While the depth of the advice (at least on the free content site) varies from article to article, BizMat is worth checking out, particularly for smaller builders who may not have the budgets for consultants or conferences. “It’s almost like going to a remodeling convention, except that you’re picking up ideas without leaving the office,” says Ronald Dimon of Dimon Construction, a remod-eling firm based in Fayetteville, N.Y., whose company has been featured on the site. Free articles deal with improving cash flow, improving profits, controlling late deliveries, and more. A section on “What Works For Your Competitors” allows site visitors to share their trade secrets on bidding jobs, selling and marketing their services, serving clients, and other building and remodeling challenges.

BizMat isn’t all free. Paid content runs $11.95 to $99.95, depending on whether it’s an article, interactive coaching session, or an interactive worksheet that can be used for the next year.
