When homeowner Sebastian Mascaro renovated part of his 7,000-square-foot Kissimmee, Fla. home, he wanted to consolidate a movie theater and golf simulator into one room. Integration firm Millennial Systems Design (MSD) used ELAN home automation to create a dual-functioning entertainment room that seamlessly transitions from theater to game mode at the push of a button.
ELAN integrates with the home theater and golf simulator technology, as well as screens, motorized shades, lights, projectors, speakers, and even decorative movie poster displays throughout the room. The custom modes can be selected from an in-wall touch panel, remote, or mobile app.

“When I click ‘home theater’ on the ELAN App, the theater screen comes down, the lights dim, the speakers power up, and the movie theater posters appear,” Mascaro explains. “When I click ‘golf simulator’ mode, the theater’s motorized screen lifts up, the golf simulator turns on, and all of the room’s motorized shades open to show the greenery outside. The mood totally changes along with the designated function.”
Designers realized early on that a separate screen would be needed for each mode. In golf simulator mode, a floor projector sends the image upward to a “porous” screen, which prevents a player’s shadow from showing up on the screen. In home theater mode, a 138” motorized screen that can support 4K content comes down in front of the golf screen while the ceiling projector is lowered from a small scissor lift. In-wall subwoofers pair with four amplifiers for powerful cinema audio, while vintage movie posters descend over two 40″ HDTV displays on each side of the room.
