The Columbus Downtown Development Corporation (CDDC), has released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to solicit responses from national developers for an ambitious mixed-use 21-acre project at the Scioto Peninsula, along the Columbus, Ohio, waterfront. The Scioto Peninsula, considered a focal point for the prosperity and continued growth of Downtown Columbus, is poised to become one of the top destinations for residents, businesses and visitors. RFQ submissions are due March 27.
“We envision the Scioto Peninsula to become one of the leading cultural, residential, office and retail hubs not just in Columbus, but in the country,” says Guy Worley, President & CEO of CDDC. “Thanks to almost $4 billion in public-private partnerships that have occurred in the past 15 years, we have drastically changed the face of our downtown, creating more civic amenities, adding greenspace and parks, all of which make Columbus a great place to live, work and play. The new Scioto Peninsula mixed-use development will propel Downtown Columbus to the next level and we’re seeking the right partner to make this vision a reality.”
The Scioto Peninsula mixed-use development will include residential, commercial, office, retail and cultural amenities, with the goal to transform downtown Columbus and its waterfront areas into an active live, work and play environment for residents and visitors. Based on a market study, the fully built-out project should include 3.1 million square feet of space including 1,575 to 1,800 apartments, up to 840,000 square-feet of office space, 180,000-square-feet of space for restaurants, retail or entertainment and up to 240 hotel rooms.
The Scioto Peninsula is anchored by the National Veterans Memorial & Museum, slated to open in 2018, and COSI, which has been ranked the number one science museum in the country. The development site is adjacent to the Scioto Mile, Columbus’ system of waterfront parks, with easy access to award-winning greenspaces and miles of dedicated recreational trails connecting to The Ohio State University, Victorian Village and other Columbus neighborhoods.
