At the BIG BUILDER '05 conference, builders across the nation were lauded for their industry achievements.

The home building industry may best be characterized by fierce competition. Builders vie for land positions, sales, market share, and even people. In this aggressive environment, many builders focus on their competition’s weaknesses to capitalize on their own strengths. But BIG BUILDER’s APEX Awards, now in their third year, provided a unique opportunity for builders to celebrate other builders who have succeeded in finding unique solutions to the industry’s persistent problems.

From among the nominations, a panel of industry experts selected the top builders in five categories. The Most Admired Builder of the Year category honored builders that distinguished themselves as leaders by proving that excellence is not a finite goal but a never-ending process. Winners in the Innovative Product Design category showed how the rules for defining production building have been rewritten while those in the Leadership and Management Practices category were applauded for their commitment to company-wide core values. In the category of Training and Development Programs, builders showed that people truly are their greatest asset. And finally, the builders recognized for their Commitment to Deliver Affordable Housing proved that the industry is taking the growing problem of affordability seriously.

Raising the bar across the industry, the APEX Awards showcased not only the most exemplary corporate practices but also the collaboration needed to make each a success. And the same is sure to be true in 2006. This summer, BIG BUILDER will once again start accepting nominations , with winners announced at the BIG BUILDER ’06 conference Nov. 1-3 in Las Vegas.
