Ashton Woods has elected to tear down a home in Bradenton, Florida’s Rosedale community that was accidentally built too close to its neighbors, ending a nearly year-long dispute between the builder and residents of the community.
While Manatee County requires at least twelve feet of space between homes in this neighborhood, the home in question was only seven feet, six inches away from the next home over. Construction had been ordered to a halt in November. Ashton Woods had applied for a variance, then withdrew its application two weeks before the hearing, electing instead to tear down the home and build another house farther away.
Darryl Colwell, division manager for Ashton Woods, sent this statement to Better Call Behnken:
“After further review, Ashton Woods voluntarily withdrew the variance request and chose to move forward with the re-site and re-start of construction on the home. The zoning requirements in the community are unique, resulting in multiple zoning and variance issues and with that, we chose to proceed with this solution. We are awaiting necessary approvals to move forward and do not have a set date for demolition at this time.”
