Building Multifamily Habitats for Humanity

Few places in the United States boast higher land prices than the San Francisco Bay Area, so when Daly City, Calif., just south of San Francisco, donated a .69-acre parcel worth $3 million to Habitat for Humanity, the non-profit builder made every square inch count. Rather than use the single-family building model it’s famous for, Habitat employed its “sweat equity” building model and a team of volunteers to put up a 36-condo multifamily unit.
