Builders Wait for Market to Hit Bottom

BUILDER Online Poll: 38 percent believe housing will crater in 2009’s second quarter.

Surviving the housing downturn has turned into a waiting game.

According to a recent BUILDER Online poll, 38 percent of respondents think the housing market will finally hit bottom in the second quarter of 2009. Fifteen percent believe it will happen sooner, in the first quarter of this year.

Others are unwilling to make any predictions after a year of previously unforeseeable economic and housing events; this 29 percent says they have “no idea” when this weak market will hit its low point.

A few—18 percent–expressed what might be considered relative optimism these days, saying they think the housing market has already hit bottom.
