According to the October ADP Regional Employment Report released Wednesday morning, approximately 41,000 of a total 147,000 jobs were added in the West region, marking a 0.15% gain month-over-month, the largest growth seen in all regions. The South was close behind with a gain of 0.14%, followed by the Northeast (0.1%) region and Midwest (0.08%), respectively.

Note that the total numbers displayed in our chart below differ slightly from ADP’s breakdown, which rounded up the total in every region.

Among the 29 states that ADP includes in its regional report, three states gained more than 10,000 jobs during October: Texas (14,830), Florida (15,760), and California (13,530), all located in the South or the West, where demand for housing is high, supply is tight, and home prices are rising. By rate of growth, the three states posting the largest gains were Nevada (0.29%), Florida (0.22%), and Colorado (0.21%).

In October, 17,000 jobs were lost in the natural resources, mining, and construction industry nationwide, with the South region contributing 8,000 to the net loss. The West shed 4,000, followed by the Midwest (-3,000) and the Northeast (-2,000). The construction industry alone lost 15,000 jobs during the same period of time, as BUILDER previously reported.
