M.D.C. Holdings made a play to jump to the top spot among home builders in the Salt Lake City market with its March 1 acquisition of local builder Salisbury Homes. Based on 2004 closings, M.D.C. ranked as the No. 2 builder in the market, 157 units behind Ivory Homes; this deal is expected to add more than 100 closings to M.D.C’s Salt Lake City volume this year and more than 250 in 2007. With the purchase, M.D.C. now builds in every submarket of Salt Lake City.
