Student Debt Can Shape Mortgage Approvals

Wall Street Journal staffer Nick Timiraos reports that data from a top national lender shows that loan applicants with student loans aren’t being turned down more often than those without debt (paywall). But the data also show that even small changes in the size of a loan applicant’s monthly debt payments can make a big difference in whether a loan gets approved.
