It’s a big week in the District as President Elect Donald Trump prepares to take office on Friday. After the inauguration, he’ll move into one of the most expensive homes in the nation, though the real estate mogul is no stranger to luxury living.
The White House is valued at $397.9 million according to a Zillow home valuation, which analyzed home values on over 100 million homes. Zillow first estimated the price of the White house when Obama took office eight years ago. Since then, the value of the 55,000-square-foot home has appreciated 15%, and is expected to appreciate 3% over the next year, which is in line with home value growth expected for the Washington, D.C. metro area.
Comparatively, home values across the country have appreciated 6.5% over the past year and 9% since Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2009.
“President Obama’s term coincided with a massive recovery of the U.S. housing market, and that’s reflected in the updated value of the White House. Home values across the country are growing at their fastest pace since 2006, with many markets setting new records — one of the reasons why the White House is worth more now than it has ever been,” said Zillow Chief Marketing Officer Jeremy Wacksman in a release.
The expansive White House has 132 rooms, 32 bathrooms, and sits on 18 acres. It has a lot of fun amenities, like basketball and tennis courts, a sun room, a large library, and the infamous bowling alley.
If an average buyer were to hypothetically purchase the White House now with a standard 30-year fixed mortgage, the monthly payment would be about $1.6 million.
President-elect Donald Trump will be the 44th president to move into the home.
