Talking green is easy, but backing it up with a sizable check shows some real commitment. Wells Fargo Home Mortgage demonstrated it was serious about green building by donating $96,668 to help the NAHB develop green consumer education programs.

Rod Luckhart, Wells Fargo’s vice president and government relations director, presented the check today to home builder Bob Jones, the NAHB’s vice president and treasurer, during a press conference at the International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla.

Luckhart said the money will go to pay for the development of videos and print materials that will educate potential home buyers on green building.

T.W. Bailey, president of Bailey Family Builders in Frisco, Texas, said the point of the video is to help home buyers understand that green building is much more than energy efficiency.

“Green building also encompasses indoor air quality, water conservation, the use of sustainable materials, recycling materials at the jobsite, and land development considerations,” said Bailey.

“We also have to focus on consumer education and that’s what the video is for,” he added.

In addition, Bailey reported that there are 960 qualified candidates who have completed the two-day course for the NAHB’s Certified Green Professional (CGP) designation. He said the builders would formally receive the CGP certificate at the NAHB’s National Green Building Conference this May in New Orleans.
