Project Description

WOHA’s design for the 243-room, 103,495 square foot extension was built in just 26 days, and is Singapore’s first private sector commercial project to use pre-fabricated, pre-finished volumetric construction techniques, proving to be a valuable approach for one of the tightest construction
sites at one of the world’s busiest airports.

The Crowne Plaza Changi Airport hotel extension (CPEX) demonstrates that it is possible to significantly reduce the number of workers required, shorten construction time, improve building quality and even overcome site constraints by changing the way we build,” said Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority CEO John Keung in February 2016.

According to OUE Hospitality Trust, using the PPVC method has slashed manpower requirements on site by as much as 45 percent. It added that the use of PPVC has shaved off 17 percent in overall construction time, with about 40 percent in manpower savings.

WOHA also served as the architect and interior designer of the original 320-room Crowne Plaza Changi Airport (CPCA) hotel. Opened in 2008 and built within seventeen months, CPCA has been awarded the Skytrax World’s Best Airport Hotel for three consecutive years (2015 to 2017).
