The project is a dramatic example of how a client’s stunning dream can be realized with a great communication and unparalleled attention to detail from design phase right through completion. Domus Constructors was hired early in the design process. Budgets were prepared, adjustments in scope were made ensuring that costs would be maintained within budgets. The site, an in-fill lot in a challenging location, contained a steep sloped area where the dwelling was to be carved into the rocky hillside. Surrounded by wetlands, much planning with local conservation officials occurred. The property also is sited within two Towns thus requiring permitting from both. The clients’ desire to achieve a very low HERS rating (almost net zero) home was another challenge. Working with a HERS rater up front and planning energy efficiencies and details prior to construction earned a rating of 25, remarkable for a dwelling of this size and complexity.
