Project Description

On the sandy shores of Rehoboth Beach, Del., local architecture firm SEA Studio Architects worked with contractor Dewson Construction to replace an aging beach cottage with a more resilient and efficient house. The original home was deconstructed, but the owners wanted to recreate the previous central, screened-in breezeway for indoor–outdoor living.

The theme continued to their new master bathroom, where the designers chose to have the indoor shower open directly to the outdoor shower. A 6-foot-wide, 9-foot-tall aluminum clad door welcomes users to the 60-square-foot outdoor bathing area. Ipe walls and a louvered trellis screen views from neighboring properties while allowing the area to flood with natural light. Stationary and handheld stainless steel fixtures finish off the exterior, while porcelain tile walls and floors complete the interior.
