Project Description

Builder’s Choice and Custom Home Awards Finalist

The home “Nootka” was required to be designed with a “heritage look” which is the prevailing design in the Municipality of Delta for single family homes. The challenge of this home was to bring it to a low/zero energy standard without having the freedom to actually design the home ideally for energy efficiency, by e.g. ideal southern orientation, solar shading, window design etc. As a consequence the systems within the home had to pick up what the design could not provide. With Structural Insulated Panel construction, triple pane fiberglass windows, heat pump (heat exchanger in the adjacent river), 2x HRVs, on-site sewage treatment system, 100% LED lighting, custom designed rain screening, Home Automation geared for energy efficiency, the home offers a maximum and the latest in state-of-the-art building science, by providing traditional heritage architecture in terms of look and feel. The home is waiting for its LEED certification confirmation for the targeted certification PLATINUM.
