American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers
(ASHRAE)
Innovation:
Standardized strategies for mitigating moisture control problems.
Vision:
A group of ASHRAE members developed the new Standard 160 to define a standard of methodology for engineers and builders to consider moisture issues in building design. The standard provides a detailed guideline for various interior conditions and provides a methodology to make consistent design recommendations, such as the need, type and placement of vapor barriers.
Economics:
ASHRAE Standard 160 helps design professionals identify and consider factors that are important to the durability and serviceability of a building and provides criteria for avoiding moisture damage and mold.
