Behrokh Khoshnevis
DIRECTOR, USC CRAFT
Creating three novel additive manufacturing processes.
One of the concepts developed by Khoshnevis is Contour Crafting—a fabrication process by which large-scale parts can be fabricated quickly in a layer-by-layer fashion. Khoshnevis has several major inventions that either have been commercialized or are in the commercialization process.
With Contour Crafting, a house or a colony of houses may be constructed on site with all conduits for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC embedded. Potential applications for Contour Crafting include lowincome and commercial housing that can be constructed rapidly, at a lower cost, and in an environmentally friendly manner. Variations of the process have been in development with NASA for construction of human outposts on other planets.
